Last Friday, we celebrated Dan’s birthday with our running group (aka our hash). It was loads of fun, but before I get into that I have monumental news:
Photobucket
I went for a run today! It’s my first run back from my achilles injury. It was slow and a little painful (not in my achilles, but all my unused muscles!) but it was great to just get outside again. I came home and stretched and iced immediately. Hopefully I’ll be pain free tomorrow as well and can head back out again 🙂

But back to Dan’s birthday!

Since he was turning 31, we made it an ice cream themed party, like Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors. It was a big hit! In addition to having a sundae bar, I made 60 cupcakes! You have to have cake and ice cream at a birthday, right?!

This was the first cupcake I made. Snickerdoodle! I followed this recipe and they turned out great!
Photobucket
Dan’s favorite drink is an Irish Car Bomb, so while on that web site for the Snickerdoodle cupcake I noticed a recipe for car bomb cupcakes. I made them and they were a huge hit! The recipe took some time, but was pretty easy to follow. To recreate the flavors of the beverage, you make a chocolate cupcake mix with Guinness beer, fill the insides with Jameson whiskey- spiked ganache, and top with Bailey’s buttercream frosting.
Photobucket
The Bailey’s frosting was very sweet and I didn’t want it to overpower the cupcake, so rather than my usual giant puff of frosting I piped it on in somewhat of a flower pattern with a new tip I haven’t yet used. Needless to say, it needs some practice!

I was especially excited because this would be the first time I was using my new cupcake courier!
Photobucket
Oh, the joys of city living. About to get into some packed trains with 48 cupcakes!
Photobucket

We had a turnout of about 40 runners for running club that night! It was so great to see everyone. I think the celebration, as well as better weather, drew more people out tonight.

Once everyone returned from the run I presented Dan with a gift: I had shirts made for everyone who came out tonight! I took our running club’s logo hare and gave him a birthday makeover, complete with ice cream. He loved it and so did everyone else!

My friend Annmaree took his picture. My good friend Kat and I! She’s over here with the Army, and sadly her time is up in Japan in just a few weeks 🙁 The woes of expat life- no one stays in one place very long!
Photobucket
The night continued with cupcakes, ice cream, drinks and mingling. Before everyone left, I made sure they got a goodie bag! I whipped these up on my Cricut this week, some of Dan’s favorite American candy 🙂

Are You a Bulugan?

Now that you’re all caught up on (most of) my out of town races, it’s time to catch up on my every day happenings!

But first, I’m excited to announce that I have partnered with Bulu Box and became their newest ambassador!

Bulu Box is a fun company that sends you 4-5 vitamin or supplement samples every month. It’s a good way to stay in the know of current products on shelves at stores! What I like about it is getting to try, say, a protein powder, without committing to a giant, $50 tub, where I might try it once and not even like it!

A monthly box of samples is $10/ month. You can buy a month at a time, commit to 3, 6, or 12 months. If you are interested in giving it a try, I say go for it! Use promo code BULUGAN771 and get a free Bulu Box! No commitment, no subscriptions, nothing like that. Just try it 😀 You just might get hooked like me and become a Bulugan!

Tiny print: Bulu Box gave me their product to try, but my opinions and reviews will always be my own, positive or negative!

And now, back to present day!

I am currently not running. But hope to start again in the next week or two! While attempting to run Goofy’s Race & a Half Challenge, I tore my achilles. All I can say is YOWWWCH!!!!! In the following weeks, I wasn’t sure what the problem was. I thought it was simply a pulled muscle, so I iced it and tried to maintain my training run schedule. No dice.

Once I got back to Japan it became so frustrating. I would rest it for a few days, then once I started running it would hurt all over again. I finally went to see a doctor and he broke the news to me: no running for 4-6 weeks! I simply had to rest, rest, rest.

This seriously drove me crazy. I sat in the house for weeks! And I was still feeling pain on stairs or with excessive walking. I felt like nothing was working.

About 2 weeks ago I started vigorous physical therapy. And it has been working! My ankle is getting stronger with my exercises and I’m continuing to ice it. I went on a 4 mile walk yesterday and had no (well, minimal) pain. I was elated! So I plan to get a couple more walks under my belt, then hopefully I can lace up and slowly start running again.

Even though I’m not running, I try to remain active with our running club, Hash House Harriers. Our chapter is the Tokyo Finally Friday Fukov. Though not running, I try to help by watching bags, taking member dues, and making sure runners have something sweet to eat upon their return!
A couple weeks ago I made blondies. They were a big hit!

This has definitely been what my life has revolved around lately. That, and a never-ending parade of house guests! It seems like every week we’re putting sheets on the couch for someone new! Good thing we love keeping busy!

I’ll leave you with one more photo- Dan and I cheering at the Tokyo Marathon. We stood at the 18 km point, and people got a big kick out of our signs!
Photobucket

To start, Club 33 is a private club inside Disneyland park. Currently, membership is $10,000 USD, with annual dues at $3,000. It is not open to the public, not even for a peek! There is a tour you can take at the park that takes you into the lobby, but not the restaurant upstairs. The only way to get in is to have a lot of money, know someone who has a lot of money, or pray your company has a corporate membership at your disposal.

Needless to say, a meal at Club 33 was on my bucket list but I had no clue how I’d ever achieve my goal!

In the past year I have joined two amazing running groups online- Pacebook and Team#RunDisney. It was in one of these groups I made friends with a woman with a membership at Club 33, and she generously offered to share her membership privileges with Dan and I. We were so excited!

The evening after the Tinker Bell half marathon we arrived promptly outside Club 33. I was in complete disbelief I was about to enter that mysterious door in New Orleans Square!
The only distinguishing mark of Club 33 in New Orleans Square
Photobucket
Someone in our party rang the doorbell and we told them our reservation. Then it happened- the door opened! People walking along behind us clustered around the take a look inside, but in we went and the door shut behind us.

We were then standing in a beautiful lobby with paintings and photographs. There was a beautiful Parisian glass elevator with a staircase wrapping around it. We opted for the elevator!
All of us runners decided it would be fun to bring our medals from the past week, so Dan and I put our on for a picture with the famous elevator!
Photobucket
Once we were all upstairs, our fabulous server gave us some interesting facts and pointed out photographs along the walls. Everything was just so beautiful! While Walt oversaw all the planning of Disneyland, this was supposedly his baby- the carpet, furniture, architecture etc- was all his choosing.
It was absolutely beautiful!
Photobucket

We passed by the trophy room and bar and were seated in the main dining room. I could hardly contain myself, I was about to enjoy a lovely meal at Club 33!

I’m going to be honest, everything excited me!
Photobucket
I mean really, EVERYTHING!

When you dine at Club 33, you have free reign over the restaurant. Meander down the halls and look at photographs and film cells, take a look at goodies for sale, and even go out on the wraparound balcony!
Out on the deck. Gorgeous night!
Photobucket
While I was up and about I excused myself to the restroom. Club 33 is known for having, quite literally, a Victorian throne of a toilet!
Fanciest toilet ever!
Photobucket
I returned to the table just in time for more deliciousness- dessert!
My s’more
Photobucket
The night was just perfect. Our waiter was full of fun facts and had so many good stories of serving celebrities! One I enjoyed was when he was serving Johnny Depp and he wanted to give his compliments to the chef, but the chef was too nervous! The chef came out and introduced himself but kept tripping over his words. So Mr. Depp stood up and put his around around him, and asked him questions about the meal and what his favorite things to make were. What a nice guy!

Our meal concluded with a plate of Club 33 mints. I gave mine to my mama 😀
Photobucket
We got up and left the dining room and looked at the cabinet full of souvenirs to purchase. I bought a mug!
Photobucket
while they were wrapping it up for its flight to Japan, we went into the trophy dining room to look at the vulture animatronic. Walt’s original idea was to fill this room with animatronic animals and have them interact with you during your meal. This dream never came to fruition, but you can still see the bird in the corner and microphones hanging! Speaking of sightings, when we wandered into the trophy room, we ran into Sean Astin!

Photobucket
And of course, if you need to make a call, they have one of these old fashioned phone-on-a-cord-dealy-things! I can’t remember the last time I used a corded phone!
Photobucket
Dan and I with some framed photos. Or, taking pictures to stall, because I didn’t want to leave! I’ll probably never be back here again!
Photobucket
Sadly it was time to go, but I couldn’t stop smiling because it was so amazing! Here I am passing through that glorious door!
Photobucket

All I can really say is if you ever, EVER get the opportunity to dine here, GO! 😀

Let’s Talk Tink…

In continuing with my catch-up attempts, let’s talk about the Tinkerbell Half Marathon!

It was a dream week, really. You fly to Florida, play at Disney World for a few days, then fly to California and have fun at Disneyland! Despite food poisoning and missing purses (see last post), we were determined to have a great time in California!

We arrived late Friday evening and got our rental car. It’s the strangest thing: we always get minivans!!! We checked into our motel by the parks and met with Bob, Dan’s dad (and my soon to be father in law!) and had a quick bite to eat at the Anaheim Garden Walk. We called it a night and went to bed- we were exhausted!

The next day we went to the expo at the Disneyland Hotel with Bob. These get more and more fun with every race, because you recognize runners, bloggers, famous athletes and favorite booths. It was fun introducing Bob to all our runner friends. We stopped by my favorite booth, Team Sparkle, and it wasn’t me, but DAN who made a purchase! A brand new sparkly green skirt! More pics on that later 😉

After the expo we walked through Downtown Disney and had lunch at one of our favorite places, Naples. It was a gorgeous sunny day, and after lunch we just enjoyed Downtown Disney.
Dan and his dad Bob
Photobucket

Sadly Bob had to catch his flight home, so Dan and I took it easy for the rest of the day. As for our pre-race dinner, it wasn’t exactly the healthiest… but who can resist the calling of In-N-Out?!
Photobucket

We got to bed early and woke up around 3:30am for our last race of our trip. It was exciting because I was starting in corral B and Dan was in corral C- as a women-centric race they make men start no earlier than corral C! So I thoroughly enjoyed this one time where I got to be in front of him 🙂 I said I’d keep an eye out for when he passed me.

Before I knew it we were off and running! I can’t begin to tell you how much better I felt, just being out of the Florida heat. My pace felt good and I even got to say hello to some people I recognized from the expo on course!

By mile 6 I was out of the parks and just running on the streets of Anaheim. I never saw Dan pass me, but I was out there with 14,000 people and figured I missed him. I checked my time and I was making really good time, and started thinking I could maybe get a new PR!

At mile 8 someone tapped my shoulder. Dan! I say this endearingly- he looked awful! He was still sick from Florida and he said everything hurt, from his head to his feet. He told me to push ahead, but I decided to forget my time and jog with him. He was only out here for me, we got into running because of me, our vacation time was spent so I could do these Disney races, so we stuck together til the end! And besides, we never have a finish line photo together since he’s so speedy, and we finally got one. I think I might have to buy this one, it turned out really good!

We got our medals and our coast to coast medals too, which was exciting! We then walked over to Downtown Disney and had an early lunch at Earl of Sandwich. So good!
Admiring our new bling!

Since we were both flying out the next day we decided to have some play time at Disneyland.

Had to hit up one of my favorites, Splash Mountain!

We decided to rest up for our celebration dinner that night, which was SO awesome it deserves its own blog post! All in all I had a blast at Tink and hope to run it again next year!

We had a crazy week in Orlando, a lot of ups and downs. Some of the downs were Dan getting a bad cold, I got food poisoning, got my credit card number stolen and charged up, left my purse at a hotel and the staff wouldn’t let me go back and get it (more on that later!), and temperamental weather we weren’t quite dressed accordingly for.

But on to the good stuff!

We were there to run! First up was a trip to Disney’s Wide World of Sports for packet pickup. We got our numbers and race shirts, and then just wandered around the expo. I love a good runner’s expo!
Photobucket
They had a huge wall with all the marathon runners’ names on it. Found mine!

The following morning, we were up early for a special opportunity to attend an official RunDisney meetup! These meetups are announced on the Disney Parks blog, but you don’t know when. One they post you send in an email, and they take the first responders, in this case 100 people. I stalked this web site for 2 days and Dan and I got in!

We got a private run through Disney’s Hollywood Studios (formerly known as MGM Studios), then listened to a panel of speakers. First up: Joey Fatone of NSYNC!
Photobucket
Next we got to do Q&A with some running legends, some of which included Jeff Galloway, Joan Benoit-Samuelson, Bart Yasso and Des DeVila

We spent the day enjoying EPCOT and called it an early night. The next day we had the half marathon, and then Sunday the full!

We spent the rest of the weekend relaxing at the pool at our hotel, the Boardwalk!
Photobucket
The rest of the week consisted of trips to the parks, amazing meals and a little stateside shopping. I was delighting to find a Vera Bradley outlet! I bought myself a case for my iPad Mini and a cute toiletry bag

All in all a great trip to Florida, and as usual we kept finding reasons to consider the Orlando area next time we relocate.

Now, about that purse!
2 years ago Dan bought me a beautiful Dooney & Bourke wristlet that commemorated the 40th anniversary of Walt Disney World. It became an instant favorite! We divided our Florida trip between 2 resorts, the Boardwalk and Port Orleans French Quarter. Once at French Quarter I realized I no longer had my wristlet! I called the hotel and they said they would have someone check the room, got my phone number and hung up. I was feeling a little antsy about it, so Dan said we could just drive over since it was close and ask in person.

Once there we were told the room was now being occupied and they couldn’t just knock on the door and ask. The worst part was I knew exactly where I’d left it, it must have slipped out of my travel bag in the closet, out of sight. But no one would help us or ask the current guests if it was there! The room was checked 3 weeks later, and no one had seen it. I’m not surprised 🙁 They are currently selling on eBay for about 4 times as much as Dan paid originally!

I couldn’t help but peruse the Disney Store website to see what Dooney currently had on the market… look at these cute bags! Perhaps for my birthday or next time we’re in Orlando ;D

Engaged!

I figured this life event was important enough to have its own entry: Dan proposed and I said yes!

On Monday the 31st, the first thing we did that morning was head into downtown Portland to get our shirts and bibs for a 5k we were doing that night- the First Run 2013 5k. We had such an amazing 2012, and we owed a lot of that to our new hobby of running, so what better way to ring in the new year than with a run?

We got our shirts and number and some Starbucks, and then Dan dropped me off for a lunch date with my friend Sandra. It was a cold day and I wasn’t particularly excited for our run that night. It was supposed to get under 30 degrees! But in the meantime I caught up with Sandra over sushi and then we did some after Christmas sale shopping at the mall, while Dan went to Fry’s to look at hard drives.

By the time he was done, Sandra and I had migrated to Target, and he met us there. We parted ways with Sanny and Dan said he was hungry. He then pulled over at the first place he saw, Carl’s Jr. We sat there talking for a while, then got in the car and drove away.

Once in the car, Dan asked if I wanted to go ring shopping. I asked if this meant that he was ready to buy one, and he said no. A little disappointed, I said no, it was pointless. Nonetheless he pulled into the Shane Co parking lot and said we should anyways. As I was unbuckling my seatbelt he said, “I think they’re closing. Let me go check the hours. Also, I have to go to the bathroom”. And with that he was gone. I thought it was weird, and knew they wouldn’t let him use the bathroom, but I didn’t think much of it and busied myself on my cell phone.

A moment later I got a text saying “they are about to close 🙁 but they are letting me use the bathroom!” A laughed and waited for him to come out. When he got back to the car the thought crossed my mind… maybe there was no trip to Fry’s, maybe he went ring shopping!

“There are a lot of cars in the parking lot considering they’re almost closing. Were there a lot of employees working? And I can’t believe they let you use the bathroom without buying something!” All he did was agree that it was weird. I couldn’t figure it out. There was no way he just bought a ring. I just asked him if he was ready and he said no!

For good measure, I rested my hand on his thigh while he drove, thinking if he did make a purchase he’d pull away. He did not. Didn’t think he bought anything.

We arrived at his mother’s where we were staying, and I decided to rest for a bit before we headed out for that midnight 5k. It was getting colder and colder.

“The 5k was pretty cheap and it’s so cold out. I’d be totally satisfied staying in and being cozy and watching the ball drop,” I suggested to him. “Nah, we paid and made a commitment, we should go. We’ll feel awesome after”. It was settled, we were going.

At one point Dan went to take a shower as I was tidying up the guest room we were staying in. I saw his coat on the ground, and I couldn’t resist… I ever so lightly patted the pocket. I know, I’m terrible! But alas, the pocket flattened, and I continued cleaning the room.

Before the race we stopped by my sister’s house to wish her family a happy new year and have some apps.
My lovely nieces Melissa and Vanessa, celebrating with some sparkling cider
Photobucket
We were all sitting around hanging out. I was dilly dallying as much as possible because it was so cold. I was really dreading this run! At one point Dan and Lauren were in the kitchen and she burst out laughing. I looked up and she said she remembered something funny. At this point Dan said ti was time to go and we headed out.

I wasn’t too happy, driving into Portland that night. It was already only 28 degrees! Dan and I like to wear matching race shirts, but I was so cold I decided to wear my jacket under my shirt. We parked a few blocks away from the start and walked over. I was wearing my new Team Sparkle running skirt to ring in the new year, but I wasn’t feeling to cheery, I was COLD!

Down at the start line, we had about 10-15 minutes. We tried to warm up a bit. Being around so many other people helped. Just before we took off, I snapped a quick picture of Dan at the starting line
Photobucket
I was going to ask someone to take a picture of us but no one seemed available. “Don’t worry, we’ll take a bunch at the finish,” Dan said.

We had a countdown to midnight, kissed, and we were off! Dan runs much quicker than I do so I was on my own. It was FREEZING. As the wind hit my face my eyes were tearing. It was a really pretty run though. I love Portland!

I finished in about 32 minutes
Photobucket

After I finished, I found Dan almost immediately. I caught my breath and we talked about it for a minute. Then he said, “let’s take that picture I promised” Yay! Normally Dan is a good sport with my manic photo taking, so I get excited when it’s his idea.

We approached a couple and asked for a photo. After, Dan looked at it and said, “the lighting is off. Let’s try over here” Just then a couple asked us for their picture and we took it for them. Then Dan asked for our picture and they said sure. The lady took 2 of us and Dan looked at them and said, “could you take one more?”

In the instant it took me to look over at the finish line and back at Dan, he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand.
Photobucket
WHAT?!
I want to say, “I knew it!” but I didn’t know! We were surrounded by strangers taking our picture and yelling and saying congrats. I just felt so confused! Happy but confused! I started tearing up and laughing and it made for an odd combination of noises. Once the crowd around us settled down we walked down the street a bit. I was just shocked.

“Who knows?” I asked him. “Just your sister” “How, when?” I asked. When I was at the mall he went ring shopping. He then needed to give them an hour and a half to put the diamond in its setting. Which is why we sat around Carl’s Jr. And what seems obvious now, he didn’t use the bathroom at Shane Co, he was picking up the ring. It was in his coat pocket, but he thought I might get nosy, and when he went to shower he took the ring in the bathroom with him! Smart guy!

He was wearing all thin running clothes, so I didn’t understand how I didn’t feel the giant ring box. He ran with it in his pants! Apparently at my sister’s he pointed out the bulge of the ring box through his pants and she started laughing, at which point she quickly made up what she was laughing about. It was all madness.

But none of this seemed real. At Target, I bought some Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas pint glasses. “So every year we can bring out those pint glasses, like tradition?” “Yes.

“Because we’re going to celebrate every Christmas together from now on?” Yes.

“And when you leave Japan, I’m coming back with you?” YES! His answer to each question was yes and then in sunk in. We’re together for life! We have a lifetime ahead of us to cook meals together, run races, vacation, visit family, watch good and bad movies, and just be together. Then it all sunk in. I was full on crying at this point.

The race had an after party but we decided to just head home. It was after 1am, and many of the bars and restaurants were all closed up. We wanted to celebrate though! In the car I pulled it together enough to text my sister and best friend Kelsey, and email my mother who was in Australia. We went to the first place we saw open- Shari’s, a little 24 hour diner chain in Oregon. Dan called and texted some of his relatives while I admired my newfound jewel- he did AMAZING and I love my ring so much! Simple and pretty, a beautiful round cut solitaire.

What a crazy night I’ll never forget. And to think, I didn’t even want to go!

Having spent over a month in Oregon and Washington, I had too much fun! So here are some highlights 🙂

As soon as our flight landed in Seattle, we met with Kelsey and Jim to see the Nutcracker and have dinner at Daniel’s. Fun AND delicious, except we were horribly jetlagged!

With sewing a stocking in all my free time, running in preparation of our upcoming marathon, baking for every weekly running club meeting, running club itself!, getting together with friends and entertaining visitors, we were crazy busy!

Kyoto!

Almost 2 months?! Where have I been?! If you guessed traveling, you’d be correct! I just don’t seem to make it to my laptop too often when I’m on the road. At the end of November, Dan and I took a shinkansen (bullet train) down to Kyoto and had an amazing weekend of sight seeing! December was a whirlwind of activities for and with our running club, Hash House Harriers, and then we were off to Oregon to surprise my family for Christmas!

But I’ll back up and recap our amazing trip to Kyoto!

A Tale of (Too Many) Shoes

Photobucket
Yes, lots of Nikes. That’s what happens when you have access to the Nike Employee Store in Portland OR, and everything is always half off!

How’s the marathon training going, you ask? Tough. But if it was easy, then more than 1% of the world would have run one!

I have been having major foot problems that I have thankfully recovered from. What caused it? Simple: my shoes.

In 2010, Dan was at the Adidas Employee Store in Portland, Oregon and got me these sweet Tron kicks.
Photobucket
At the time I was well over 200 lbs and had no ambition to lose weight or be a runner. So they were my walking shoes for Japan, going to the store, Disneyland etc.

Summer 2011 I started getting out and making walks more mandatory in my schedule, and these were the shoes I’d go out in. Eventually that fell by the wayside and they were reduced to my “going to the store” shoes.

January 2012, I decided I didn’t want to be fat anymore, and I wanted to run. I laced into these, but who are we kidding? The cushioning was all worn out in odd places and I’ll be honest, they are totally from the kids’ department. It was time for an upgrade if I was going to give this running thing a fair shot.

Enter: My first pair of Nike Lunarglides!
Photobucket
These had no break in time and were super comfortable. I ran in these from January until this fall. I’m only retiring them since I’ve put 450 miles on them!

Don’t be swayed by what the masses say…
Photobucket
This is my first pair of Nike Frees. I got them half off from the children’s section. I got them because A- they were a great deal and B- everyone says awesome things about Nike Frees, and they’re pretty trendy in the states right now, for running and just hanging out in.

I got these in July and went on a couple runs with them, but they rubbed my arches a bit funny. They felt very different from my Lunarglides. Not bad different, just different different! With the Disneyland half marathon on the horizon in 2 month, I decided to shelf these and break them in later in the fall.

Then I bought the Nike FreeRun 2
Photobucket

I know, I know. I had a pair of Frees at home! I was out shopping w girlfriends, saw these and tried them on, and they felt great. I didn’t have that rubbing of my arch like i did with the Frees I already had. So I wrapped these babies up and took them home to Japan with me.

Things started out fine. I took them for a jog on the beach, and a quick jaunt in Seattle, no real problems. As usual, while visiting home my training dropped WAY down. I’d go a week or longer between runs. So when I got home and got down to business, running daily, I started having major foot pains. I chalked it up to 2 things- getting back on my feet and running, and the 5ish lbs I gained when back in the states.

But the pain didn’t go away! On the contrary, it got worse. I’d run a mile and have to stop. I’d get so frustrated I felt like crying. Nothing made sense. I had brand new shoes and I was chomping at the bit to get down to business with my marathon training. Day in, day out, I was reduced to a walking, teary mess.

I turned to my online RunDisney posse and laid this whole mess out for them. It was unanimous- THE SHOES! There’s something special about the Nike Free- It has hardly any cushioning to simulate running barefoot (think: those weird shoes with 5 toe pockets). If someone goes from a cushy shoe to a not-so-cushy shoe, it’s gonna take some getting used to! Once I pinpointed the problem, I started Googling breaking in minimal cushion running shoes. Most the website advise walking around your house in them first, then maybe a 1-3 mile jog in them once a week. I tried to run 25 miles in a week with them! Shesh! No wonder my feet were howling!

So what to do? I decided I buy the newest version of my beloved Lunarglide:Photobucket
This version is water resistant. Hello dry feet!

But again, silly me. I strapped them on and tried to run. No such luck. Pain! I finally got a diagnosis of tendonitis, an inflamed tendon near the rear of my foot. I took a week off, iced, elevated, and got some great foot massages (thanks Dan!). I tell you, when there is a weekend looming in your future consisting of running 39.3 miles, this is torture!!

But I took it slow and got back on my feet, but in my old Lunarglides. My feet needed something familiar to run in. I’m currently slowly adjusting to my new running shoes and so far it’s going great! No pain!

My advice is to do what works best for you, and stick with it! Don’t be woo’d by fancy shoe ads or what works for other people. It’s hard to remember I’m still new at the running thing, and I’m going to make mistakes. Hopefully this is the last big one for quite a while!
